Our Story

Like so many of you, I discovered pickleball on a whim, just for fun and some exercise. Within months, I went through every stage of pickleball obsession (you know the ones!) and was completely hooked.

What started as a few friendly games soon became a full-blown love affair with the sport and the people who play it. I wanted to capture those stories, celebrate the sense of community, and showcase how aloha shows up on every court across the islands.

That spark became Hawai‘i Pickleball Magazine…a digital publication built to share the people, places, and passion driving the state’s fastest-growing sport.

From Humble Beginnings to Hawai‘i’s Thriving Pickleball Community

It began humbly, with a few taped-off tennis courts and a handful of curious players. But from those early days, pickleball in Hawai‘i has come a long way. Across the islands, from community gyms to brand-new dedicated courts, the game has become a gathering place for players of every age, background, and ability—connecting O‘ahu, Maui, Kaua‘i, and Hawai‘i Island (Big Island) through friendly competition and aloha.

Today, Hawai‘i’s pickleball scene thrives with neighborhood clubs, statewide tournaments, and visitors who pack their paddles alongside their swimsuits. Whether it’s open play at Ala Moana, round-robins in Kona, or charity matches in Lahaina, pickleball here is more than a pastime…it’s connection, culture, and the aloha spirit in motion.
